Alison Kavanagh and Aubrey Gowing have been involved in Holistic therapies and Holistic Massage training courses for over three decades. This journey began from a very young age. Their father Don Gowing started the first Holistic Healing Centre in Ireland in the early 1980’s. As young children Alison and Aubrey were taught yoga postures, breathing exercises and relaxation techniques alongside an awareness of the natural healing energy in the body, the effects of nutrition and the importance of eating foods as close to their natural state as possible.
These early influences sparked a curiosity and life long passion for effective bodywork, massage therapy, holistic health and well-being. Alison and Aubrey went on to explore and learn many different aspects of Holistic health, massage therapy and bodywork from international world renowned industry leaders. This inspired them to travel the world to study numerous therapies that promote relaxation including Holistic Massage, Reflexology, Aromatherapy, Indian Head Massage, On site massage and Hot Stone Massage to remedial and therapeutic bodywork such as Manual Lymph Drainage, Sports Massage, Orthopaedic Massage and Myoskeletal Alignment Techniques. Alison and Aubrey also studied exercise physiology, yoga teaching, pilates instruction, fitness instruction and personal training,
Alison studied a diverse range of therapies and had a particular interest in Healing, Holistic Massage, Reflexology, Manual Lymph Drainage and Pregnancy Massage. She then became very interested in therapeutic massage after studying with Leon Chaitow, Tom Myers, Benny Vaughn and Ben Benjamin. Alison was also interested in promoting and developing industry standards and she worked on policies and procedures for quality assurance which she agreed and got accredited by QQI and iTEC.
Aubrey’s initial interest in Yoga teaching was quickly eclipsed by his love of teaching therapies, with a special focus on Sports Massage and the treatment of chronic pain conditions. This inspired him to follow in his sister’s footsteps and seek out the most eminent industry professionals from around the world. Initially studying with them and later collaborating with world leaders on international projects that, to date, have spanned 4 continents.
Now halfway through their fourth decade as therapists and educators, Alison & Aubrey fulfil many roles at Holistic College Dublin, including College Directors, tutors for Holistic Massage, Reflexology, Sports massage courses and content creators for innovative continuing professional development courses. Alison and Aubrey are authors and continue to develop, design and deliver new courses, seminars and workshops both nationally and internationally. So far they have delivered 200+ full diploma courses, 60+ seminars and produced over 5,000 trained Massage Therapists!
All of this accumulated expertise has allowed them to teach and share their passion for effective bodywork to inspire students to become highly trained, sought after Therapists with great underpinning knowledge and excellent hands on practical skills.
Alison and Aubrey continue to contribute to the understanding and development of this industry. Aubrey served three terms as President of the Irish Massage Therapists Association and Alison served as Communications officer on the executive committee. They also developed and wrote course manuals for each Diploma course, a bespoke online learning platform with instructional videos of each therapy, online lectures and pop quizzes to support students and enhance their learning experience. Alison and Aubrey would like to welcome you to Holistic College Dublin and they look forward to guiding the next generation of Therapists to great success.
